Biography

Hold a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, awarded Cum Laude. My educational background includes a master's degree in engineering and an undergraduate degree in control engineering. I currently serve as a full-time professor at the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Universidad del Valle (2025–present). I previously completed a postdoctoral position at the University of Central Florida (2024) and served as a research specialist at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (2023). I have gained valuable international experience as a visiting researcher at prestigious research centers in Switzerland and Mexico. Throughout my career, I have successfully prepared research proposals and disseminated findings through publications in high-impact journals, book chapters, and international conferences. My technical expertise includes the design and implementation of power electronic converters, as well as real-time simulation with hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) for power systems using platforms such as OPAL, Typhoon, Compaq Rio, DSPs (Texas Instruments), and FPGAs. I also have practical experience with MATLAB & Simulink, Python, OpenDSS, Matpower, PSIM, EAGLE, LabVIEW, Code Composer Studio, RTLab, and advanced programming in C.

Professor José Ramirez wins Alain Gauthier award

Professor José Ramirez has won the Alain Gauthier award for his contributions in the area of education in control at the 3th IEEE Colombian Conference on Automatic Control (IEEE CCAC). This conference was held in Cartagena, Colombia, between October 18 and 20, 2017.

Alain Gauthier award is given by IEEE CSS Colombia to an outstanding control engineer and practitioner who has contributed significantly in education and research, or in scientific projects driving to a significant breakthrough in the field. This prize is given during the ceremony that takes place in the IEEE CCAC congress every 2 years.

Many congratulations to Professor José Ramirez.

 

Andrés Restrepo wins "Best paper presenter" award

 Andrés Restrepo is a PhD student in Engineering with an emphasis in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and belongs to the Industrial Control Research Group -GICI- at Universidad del Valle. He won the "Best paper presenter" for the paper "A comparative study of the magnetic field homogeneity for circular, square and equilateral triangular Helmholtz coils" in the "International Conference on Electrical, Electronics, Communication, Computer Technologies and Optimization Techniques (ICEECCOT-2017) ". This conference was held in Mysuru, India, between December 15 and 16, 2017.

Biography

Esteban Emilio Rosero-García was born in Potosí, Colombia, in 1976. He received his B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering and his M.S. degree in Engineering with an emphasis in Automatic Control from Universidad del Valle, Cali, Colombia, in 2001 and 2006, respectively. In 2016, he earned his Dr.-Ing. (Doctor of Engineering) from the Institute of Control Systems at the Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH), Germany.

Early in his career, he worked as an engineer at Cenicaña (2001–2002). In 2009, he served as a Visiting Researcher at the University of Delaware, USA. Since 2007, Dr.-Ing. Rosero-García has been with the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Universidad del Valle, where he is currently a Full Professor. He is also a primary researcher with the Industrial Control Research Group (recognized as Category A by Minciencias). He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in dynamic systems modeling, control theory, and advanced control systems for students in Mechanical, Electrical, Food, and Electronics Engineering. His research interests encompass the modeling and control of dynamic systems, biomechatronics, rehabilitation technologies, cooperative and autonomous systems, mobile robotics, industrial process control, and engineering education.
